Chapter 12 Journal

The end of the novel was very action-packed but also predictable because they ended up getting rescued. I suppose Ralph cries at the end of the novel because he is saved from death and can finally get off the island. The danger is over when he reaches the officer and talks to him. The character I despise the most in this novel is Jack because he is the most violent and is very self-centered. I would recommend this novel to friends who are into action because of all the events that occur throughout the book.

Ch. 11 Questions

1) Ralph's group decides they must go to Jack's tribe and get Piggy's glasses back so they could start a fire.

2) The twins are "seeing Ralph for the first time" because he is starting to forget the purpose of the fire and why they need it.

3) The boy's attempt to get back Piggy's specs and get the other boys to maintain a signal fire was bound to fail because

4) I think Roger pushes the rock off the cliff to calm the madness and the yelling.

5) The destruction of the conch is significant because that shows the end of civilization and order which has now become chaos.

6) Most of the boys want a chief to tell them what to do because they'd be lost. A chief gives them a form of leadership.

7) Why did he raid the boys instead of asking? Did he feel any remorse for the deaths of Simon and Piggy ?

8) Jack has taken over the island and we are all on his side because we enjoy having fun instead of having to listen to Ralph. Personally, I would feel frightened of Jack if I was on Ralph's side now that I've seen his capabilities. He has now gotten out of control and I don't think any of us could stop him.

It would be nice to be rescued at this point. Anything can happen next and I don't want to see anymore fatalities. I'll just do my best to stay on Jack's good side and stay alive. I'm sure all the others feel the same.

Ch 10 Common Core Questions

1) Ralph said "That was murder" as he barely came to realize what they had done (Golding 156).
Piggy said, "It was an accident" as he was denying the truth of the their savage acts and tried to justify what they had done (Golding 157).
Samneric claimed not to be there when they said, "Yes, we were very tired so we left early." (Golding 158)

2) Ralph's explanation for Simon's death was that it was murder and he felt bad about it while Jack was telling his tribe that they had killed the beast and did a good job but says they must continue to defend against it because it is never truly dead.

3) We can conclude that Jack is ruling through fear and feels that he can do whatever he wants to any of the boys at anytime.

The chief is now Jack because he is in control of everything on the island.
